who we are
RE-IMAGINING CARE SYSTEMS
-
colour in mind creates a culturally relevant care ecosystem for women and gender diverse people of colour through mindfulness, movement, and creative experiences. guided by the principles of healing justice, we center those most impacted by oppression and trauma, offering opportunities for joy, rest, connection, and community care.
-
keeping women and gender diverse people's health at the forefront, we bridge gaps between the community care and formal health systems, improving the continuity and access to care. our offerings include mindfulness and movement programming centered in stress regulation, culturally-appropriate health education, clinics and mental health training for both community members and health practitioners.
-
colour in mind holds a mandate to ensure that 50% of our offerings are tailored to the black community, as we experience disproportionate inequities within health. we also deeply support women and gender diverse people of colour, cultivating a community of inclusivity and cultural power.
-
grassroots beginnings
beginning as a grassroots group in 2023, we have delivered unique health and wellness programming across the greater toronto area as a direct response to community need. our initiatives have been funded by many grantors including the city of toronto.
in 2025, we transitioned to a registered non-profit to expand our capacity and service delivery.
data driven
through receiving ongoing feedback from participants, we refined our offerings over time.
we support women and gender-diverse people of colour by offering mindful, free or low-cost, capacity-building health training, experiences, and culturally relevant resources.
our vision
to transform how wellness and self-care are accessed and experienced by women and gender-diverse people of colour, helping them build resilience, community connection, and tools for thriving in mind, body, and spirit.

our guiding values
-
interconnectedness
we prioritize autonomy and self-determination of the individual while actively recognizing the importance of collective transformation. colour in mind acknowledges the interconnectedness of all beings and how our actions as individuals impact the greater community and beyond. we hold reverence for the indigenous lands that we live and practice on, the animals that call it home and all beings seen and unseen who inhabit the earth.
we honour ancestral ways of seeing the world, recognizing their deep appreciation for the earth and their resilience against colonial powers.
‘interbeing’ is a term coined by zen master thich nhat hanh, signifying the profound interconnectedness and interdependence of all things, meaning nothing exists independently but rather "co-exists" or "inter-is" with everything else, like a flower needing sun, soil, and rain to be.
-
creating accessible care
colour in mind values generosity, through creating accessible programming, connections and experiences for women and gender diverse people of colour.
we acknowledge that giving is inherent to developing compassion, lovingkindness and builds upon the knowing the interconnectedness of all beings. we give with intention and with care.
-
our ways matter
we practice creative mindfulness—an in-house, culturally rooted and inclusive approach to mindfulness that honors ritual, movement, artistry, breath, and ancestral practice.
creative mindfulness affirms the diverse ways of being and restoration that women and gender diverse people of colour already carry. we recognize mindfulness as being in the present moment, while holding the knowledge that the present moment for many can be harmful, dysregulating and violent.
through trauma-sensitive guidance and inclusion, creative mindfulness expands practice past eurocentric models and recognizes that mindfulness is expansive, evolving, and deeply connected to culture and lived experience.
-
transforming care
we hold deep reverence for kindred southern healing justice collective and cara page for the development of ‘healing justice’, the model in which we operate, deliver and live by.
through healing justice, we could transform collective trauma, collectively, by practicing environmental, disability reproductive and transformative justice in our mandates, delivery and in our partnerships.
we are recovering and reclaiming practices that have been severed as a way of oppression, colonist violence and white supremacy.
the work of black, queer feminists has led, and continues to lead the way for community-driven restoration. despite the mass defunding of public healthcare for marginalized communities, the attempts at silencing our voices and the misinformed allegations of reverse racism we will always keep colour in mind.
-
dissolving stigma & shame
colour in mind centers non-judgment in all levels of its operation. we welcome and value the diverse lived experiences of ourselves, our community, team and our stakeholders.
we recognize that there is no single model of care or healing and the ways in which we know how to live and cope serve their purpose. we wholeheartedly and authentically welcome those who are living with dis/abilities, who are queer, trans and gender non-conforming, who engage(d) in sex work and/or the street economy, those living with hiv/aids, who are unhoused or undocumented, those who experience(d) gender based violence and/or use(d) substances.
we recognize how stigma is a harm that silences, isolates and creates collective wounding. above all, colour in mind centers harm reduction in our care delivery and in our community.
