join us for deep care - a 3 session series focused on trauma-sensitive sexual and reproductive wellness for women and gender diverse people of colour. our intention is to de-stigmatize conversations and practices around sexual and reproductive health in the community, through education and connection.

deep session 03

our third deep session is a free, indigenous-led sexual health pop-up stbbi clinic with call auntie. know your status with low-barrier, non-judgmental care.

no ohip required.

at this clinic, you’re invited to get testing for stbbi’s (sexually transmitted and blood-borne Infections). we welcome women and gender-diverse people of colour who are curious about their status. whether you are currently sexually active or have been in the past, partnered with nobody or several, call auntie offers non-judgmental care. even if you don’t have any symptoms, we welcome you to get tested or even ask the aunties any questions :)

it is walk-in, but we will have lots to do if you have to wait for a moment for your one on one care. there will be 2 nurses (gemma and jess), one midwife (sadie) and a community health worker (krysta)

please bring your questions for the midwives and nurses! at this gathering, you can expect a therapeutic and calm, non-judgmental space accompanied with art stations, resources and more. you do not need an ohip card. you also do not need to provide your legal name.

call auntieis a true pillar in the community. as an indigenous-led interprofessional healthcare team, call auntie is strengthening the wellbeing of the urban indigenous community and those experiencing barriers to mainstream healthcare, celebrating two-spirit, non-binary, trans, and afro-indigenous relatives. we welcome women and gender diverse people of colour to be tested for this gathering!

call auntie will be providing several services, you may choose what works for you!

  • urine and throat/rectal swab tests for chlamydia & gonorrhea

  • uti testing

  • blood tests for hiv, syphilis and hep

  • resource connections

  • natal care and connections

  • answers to your questions about sexual & reproductive health care

nia, the founder of colour in mind and a registered nurse (RN) has been tested by call auntie several times. 🧡

you’ll need

  • comfortable clothes

  • (optional) - comfort items for your testing. ex. soft scent to smell (not invasive to others), comfort item, plushy toy or plushy robe, etc

we will supply safer sex materials, self-care items, refreshments, art stations and other take home goodies!

privacy, safety & results

call auntie is a stellar and highly-regarded organization providing care primarily to the indigenous community and those experiencing barriers to healthcare. beginning as a phone line during covid, call auntie has tremendously expanded their operations and is known for culturally safe care in toronto. their clinic operates out of the toronto birth centre, and they offer unique, wrap around medical, emotional and spiritual care services. your privacy is a priority with call auntie. your results will only be shared with you and you will be able to choose how you receive your results (phone call, text etc). they adhere to all public health guidelines.

nobody at colour in mind will have access to your results or any of your information given at the clinic. we are only offering a space for this clinic to happen and offering it to our community members. call auntie clinicians are registered with their respective colleges and are licensed and insured to practice in ontario.

accessibility

location:

  • the wildseed centre is at street level, but the testing will be in the basement, in the multi-purpose room. there will be an elevator to the basement.

  • there is one gender neutral changeroom.

  • in our discussions, we prioritize creating an inclusive and trauma-sensitive environment. we recognize that participants have diverse experiences and backgrounds, and it is essential to ensure that everyone feels safe and respected. we will use inclusive language.

  • attendees are encouraged to participate at their comfort level, with the option to step out or seek support if needed. we are committed to cultivating a space where safety is the priority. re-traumatization. by prioritizing trauma sensitivity, we aim to create a supportive, explorative and healing environment for all.
